Proud Owner

I was impressed with the wife a couple of days ago when she sent me this picture and simply asked,
"You want it"

Well you bet I did but from my research they are going between 60 and 100 bucks. So I asked how much.

She text back "$20.00"

The next question from me was obvious, "Does it work"

"Yup, it sure does"

"Then git it"

I am the proud owner of a clothes wringer, finally. I have been looking for one of these things for several years now.

    1. Am I right about the cost on these things. I can not find one on ebay for less than $60.00
She found this in an antique store believe it or not. I asked her to look for a scrub board and we were shocked to find the guy wanted $50 for them and only $20 for the wringer. If they had another one I would buy it for you. I will look this weekend.

  2. I am sooo jealous! This is one of the 1st "big" items I wanted to buy. Leave it up to you guys to get one for $20! Way to Go!

I want to have clean clothes without too much inconvenience (relateively speaking). This is one way to make it happen. My elbows hurt too much to manual ring.

I guess we need to stop by the hunting camp we keep passing and ask how much they would take for the one sitting on their front porch.

    Congratulations!

    1. It was luck but like I said, we have been looking for one for a while now and refused to pay top dollar. I am too cheap for that.
There is nothing wrong with stopping by there and asking.

  3. Not bad, looks like a hand crank, that could be handy one day. I remember as a kid getting my fingers caught in an electric one...not fun.

    1. One day? I am fixin to build a laundry area out back and use it every Sunday on at least my clothes. I am sure the wife and kids won't use it until it is necessary but I can't wait.

  4. Wow, my grandma had one of those on her machine back in the day. A friend had one of those at his car wash so folks could ring out their shammy's. He bought his brand new. He had it mounted on a barrel, but he took it down because stupid people tossed trash in the barrel and he got tired of cleaning it out.

    1. I remember a long time ago the car washes around here had them. (Sigh) I miss those days

  5. All I can say is "SCORE". Good find. When I was in high school we had Two back in the barn. My dad gave me permission to tear them apart and use the rollers to make a boat trailer. Oh well, I needed the trailer more than the wringer then.

    1. I can see them as boat trailer rollers.
I was going to build my own wringer but the rollers are more expensive than the stupid machine is.

  6. I'm impressed. I just scored a manual craftsman push drill in excellent condition from an auction for $2. I love hunting down good deals and antiques that are still usable.

  7. Fine find indeed. Now you need the washing machine, a gasoline powered one...

    1. Thanks Stephen. I am planning a bicycle powered washing machine at the moment, but just like all the rest of the projects, it is put on the list.

  8. How funny. Just last week I was trying to figure out how someone off grid with limited power would wash their clothes. I never even thought about this. My grama had one of these and as a matter of fact I have an antique working toy of one of these. I should send you a picture of it.

    1. Sista, I just don't know what they do in the winter unless they hang everything in the house.
I have seen those toys and they are really neat.

  9. Great find! When I was a kid we had a round washer (Maytag maybe?), that was on wheels, and electric. It had a wringer on the top. We used to hook it up to the kitchen sink, to do our laundry. Watch your fingers!! Even the hand crank ones hurt like h*ll if you get them caught lol

    1. I was messing with it last night and sure as the world I pinched my finger. It was one of those "I wonder if this would hurt" moments and yes it did.

    2. if you grow enough black eyed peas or other veg you have to shell the ringer would work great for that and a lot of women have been hurt by those things by standing too close

  10. My Mom has been looking to buy a wringer and got a tub and the whole set up. Washer died and she never thought to use the wringer until I brought it up after Dad bought a new washer.

  12. oooh, i hope i find a deal like that next time i go "a junkin". lehmans has the wringers but they cost about 170.00 and of course shipping and handling is expensive so your looking at 200-230.00. lehmans als has the double washtubs on a stand..very pricey.

  13. I know, they are high.
I am planning to build a washing station by summer. I have all the tubs, I just need the plunger.

  16. I would love to find one of those on the cheap!

Currently I have a little hand crank washing machine, and although the water drains out of it, the clothes are still dripping wet when I put them on the line to dry. I guess I could take the time to wring them out by hand... meh, no thanks. I will admit to being lazy!

  17. Prairie Cat, I thought about getting one of those but I do not know how much it will hold. The one I was looking at said it would hold around five shirts but being I wear triple XL, does that mean I could only wash 2 of my shirts at a time?
    Thanks for the comment.

  18. My grandma that raised me had a ringer washer! We did laundry in it outside off the back porch... Good memories, thanks for making me think of them!
