Today will mark a new page in the record books as being the hottest summer in history for these parts.
1980 made history when it had sixty nine days over 100 degrees. Yesterday we tied the thirty one year old record and today we will surpass it topping out at 105.
Though the cool fronts are coming more frequently, the temperatures climb right back up only after a couple of days giving you a false hope of cooler weather. It is nice to at least have a day or two during the week to get out and get some chores done.
I watched the news last night and they were talking about a freeze warning already in some of the mid Northern states. I am not ready for weather like that yet. I need a fall that lasts for at least three months so the late gardens I planted can have a chance to grow and produce. I also have a million things that were put off during the summer due to the heat that need to be done before winter.
Changing subjects,
The wife turns 40 at the end of the month and she is not looking forward to it. I had planned to throw her this huge event, but being an event of any size would cost a considerable amount of money that we don't have, I am at a loss. Normally a birthday would not be a big deal, but being 40 is an achievement and a mile stone going from young to old, life to death, over the hill, from girl to granny...., you get the hint. (I bet that made some of y'all mad). Anyway, if you have an idea that will work on a chepo budget, please let me know.
Have a great day.
(chuckle)
ReplyDeleteYour wife is not turning 40. She is turning 29 + 11 years experience!
Man MDR , that's a lot of hot weather. We get it hot like that out here in Californistan but not that many days. We probably had maybe 15 or 20 days in the 100's all sumner this year. Must be hard keeping enough water on the tomatoes. The ones I grow seem to like it hot but I don't think they could stand up to that. Don
ReplyDeleteAround here potlucks are very popular. You could do a main item (like ribs or chicken)and have everyone bring a side dish or you could just buy a keg and have everyone bring a dish including the ribs or chicken. Supply a cake and paper plates and cups. Have something fun like a bonfire or picnic on the creek? river? for fishing or games or something else that is fun. Do you know anyone that has a band? I had a barn open house with a band that was a potluck. I decorated with Christmas lights and used hay bales for seating with quilts on them. We all danced and ate and maybe drank too much beer. It was the best party ever and I invited everyone on the island. Everybody brought a dish and one person even did a Louisiana boil with gumbo. You would be surprised what people are willing to bring. I supplied beer and Barron of beef along with the eating utensils.
ReplyDeleteAnother idea, on my 40th I was treated to a manicure, shopping spree with my sister, and lunch. Maybe your girls could come up with an all girl day.
Also an out door movie with all your friends if you can figure out how to do it. That is always a hit. Popcorn and drinks or an ice cream social. (Make the ice cream?)Just have fun and don't sweat the small stuff. People just like a get together.
I am not a granny yet ... Thank God lol :) I love the outdoor movie idea is a great one, we could use the big barn even the animals could watch hmmm let do Charlotte's Web...
ReplyDeleteMrs. Redneck
Flowers and a kiss go a long way. Make her a nice dinner. Pamper her...she deserves it. Oh, don't forget a card. Just my two cents.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she acts and looks like she's 25.
ReplyDeleteI just hope the doghouse is air conditioned and has internet.
I'm with Stephen. A couple of roses and a card. And maybe make a coupon book that you can put a ribbon on.
ReplyDeleteTell your wife I will be 60 next April and that is REALLY bad for your morale.
ReplyDeleteThe weather since last winter has been totally bizarre and I'm wondering just what is going on. I don't believe all that about "man made global warming" but the earth's weather patterns have changed over the millennium and I wonder if that's what we are seeing.
I like the outdoor movie thing :) and since I'll be there y'all should rig up a way to do it!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember how I celebrated 40. I will say my favorite celebrations are ones with the family. Good meal, homemade cake with ice cream on the side. Loads of laughter and memories. My family is so full of BS they are fun any day. I like the redneck movie idea too. That can be loads of fun. Popcorn and a movie on the side of a barn. Sounds like a rich party to me.
ReplyDeleteknowing your imagination and ways of being able to improvise you will come up with something, somehow someway family and friends will help fortify your ideas I am sure
ReplyDeleteThank for all the comments. I will try and respond a couple at a time.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - That is one way to say she is old. Maybe I will try that instead.
Don - We gave up on the tomatoes a long time ago. I might try to plant them a little earlier next year.
Sista - The meat is the most expensive thing to supply. Like I said, money is tight so we might have to BBQ a goat if anyone wants meat.
ReplyDeleteI like the movie thing, I just don't know how I would pull that one off yet.
Thanks for the ideas.
Mrs. Redneck - I can't promise anything but I will try.
Stephen - Those are great ideas but that what I always do for her birthday. I am sure she is wanting something more out of me for this mile stone she is having. Thanks for the ideas.
ReplyDeleteMudbug - I spend most of my time in the doghouse so yes, I do have it set up quite nicely.
Flier389 - I like the coupon book idea. Thanks for commenting.
ReplyDeleteATH - She told me tell you she feels older than 60.
The climate is a thing to make you scratch your head, that is for sure.
BEB - See if the school will let you borrow one, lol
ReplyDeleteHH - All I need is a projector I guess, any ideas?
Anonymous - I sure hope your right.
Aww Mr.Redneck just having you and the kids around is all I need :)
ReplyDeleteMrs.Redneck
Oh man, your going to make me look soft here. I need to keep up my redneck image. lol
ReplyDeleteOk as far as birthday ideas I was thinking the same route as sista told..potluck the whole thing and you provide drinks and dishware and cake. We have done the outdoor movie thing with friend and this is a lot of fun. Big weenie roast with hotdogs, the trimmings (potato salad, hot slaw, etc.) and marshmallows for dessert (all potlucked, assign folks what to bring)and you supply drinks, condiments, dishware, and bonfire. Don't let this special occasion go by cause you really can do it on the cheap...just go for it. NOW BUSTER, lets discuss this girl to granny thing. I got you wife beat by 7 years. Got 3 grandchildren and 2 on the way, and I AM NOT a granny....I'm a Gramma...and NO there is not a w on the end of it. LOL..you are always too funny. Good luck with your party!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Anna for making me laugh.
ReplyDeleteWe can't have a fire due to the hazard and probability of burning the rest of the state of Texas down so a weenie roast is out. A snack pot luck is the way we would have to do it. I want to do the outdoor movie but do not know where to get a projector of whatever it is I have to have. I will keep looking.
If you have her beat by 7 then that makes you 33:) (I know, I'm a sweetheart)
I hope the wife is not a Gramma for at least another 8 to 10 years.
Thanks for the comment.
Try renting a projector. If that doesn't work ask any one you know that has an in with a school. They usually have one.
ReplyDeleteShe's 20 for the second time....
ReplyDeletesista - I'm still looking.
ReplyDeleteseth - That is what she keeps saying just so she can fill young. I don't buy it. I tell her to embrace it, to own it, to make 40 hers. She does not buy that either. Thanks for the comment.
May you have a joyous 40th Mrs. MDR. I had a lot of fun in my 40s cause I was young enough to enjoy them and old enough (mostly) to keep from doing stupid things. Life is an adventure, so go exploring.
ReplyDeleteYeOldFurt
YeOldFurt - She said thank you for the wise words and thank you for being there for us.
