Oh The Humanity

When I was younger and we had a pig farm it was not uncommon to cut around twenty pigs a weekend.
At twenty to thirty pounds all I did was grab a little unknowing male piglet, hold him upside down and my Dad would cut, pull and snip. Apply a little blood stop and the next little pig was up. Easy as eating gizzards.

Somewhere in the last 25 years it has gotten a lot harder. I don't know if it is age or just being out of practice. It could possibly be that this one was seventy pounds and really did not want to loose his junk.

I posted this picture on facebook and had one response asking why it took four people to do the deed when it only takes them two and one being a girl.
I tip my hat to her because this little pig kicked my butt.

  3. Well, that was a kind response. (apply sarcasm here)

I know if I was male I would fight like crazy. On top of that..... What does being a girl have to do with it! You know just as well as I do that girls can do almost anything a boy can. That was not only a hit for you but for girls too. Now here I go over to FB..... yes, I'll be nice. - Genevieve

  4. why so late on the cutting? 70 lbs is a little bit older than 5 - 10 days old

  5. I would do the same coley

    Me neither Duke

I just thought it was funny G.

TransFarmer, he was as small as they had at the sell. Most of the others were 90 to 110 pounds. The real small ones that were just weened were being sold as a group and not buy the head. If I would have the choice I would have gotten a smaller pig.

  9. TF - Yup, got him and a little gilt last Tuesday at the sell. I don't have the room here to actually raise and breed hogs.

Stephen - He is gun shy of me now that is for sure.

Texan - Maybe but the taste is all worth the trouble.
