One Week Away

Just one more week until we are back on the circuit cooking chili every weekend.

I have been excited about the new season, the new equipment and the new recipes we will be using. Also this year I will be entering the bean category and serving up my own special Texas style beans. My chili may suck, but my beans are going to take me places.

It's going to be hot and I don't like cooking in the heat, but I have to do it for the points. This weekend we will be cooking in Durant at the Oklahoma State Championship. This is really not the place to try out new recipes and equipment but you got to do it somewhere. It you are around that part of the Oklahoma this weekend drop me an email and I will tell you where we will be. Get there in time and you can be a judge. I look forward in see you there.

The anniversary weekend went as planned. The Murder Mystery Dinner was a blast. I didn't know we would actually be a part of the play, this was right up my ally. I am really not a people person but put into that situation where I was put on the spot to come up with an answer in front of a crowd, it was fun. I didn't know I needed to make up who I was. So on the fly I was Wayne Walton, out on parole. I was with my prison wife Candy, an ex-stripper.
The neat thing was, you did not know who the actors were. They would talk to you while you mingled just like they were part of the crowd.  It wasn't till they were shot or shot someone did you know they were part of it.
Well, now I can say "Been there, Done that"

I also wanted to welcome to the new members of MDR. Thank you for hitting the button. If you need anything just let me know. This is a rowdy bunch so please don't get scared.

And that's it. Another long, back breaking, hot week is ahead of me at the Job.
See ya in the funny pages,
MDR

  1. How did your wife resist the urge to yell "I'm a STRIPPER!!" Too cute! My niece totally won the USA Midwest Chili Cookoff. Honest! And, I never even asked for her recipe. Why? Because everyone things they truly make THE BEST chili anyway. When mine gets hotter than I expected, I put 1/2 teaspoon of cocoa powder in it to sweeten the burn. lol

    1. That's why we have Competitions. Just to show who's the best.
I will be the first to say mine sucks. I have a list of competitions where I didn't win to prove it. This year I changed up how and what I do to my chili to see if I can come up in the ranks a little.
      Thanks for the comment LJ.

    2. I've tasted some great runner ups at the fairs, and nearly lost the flesh off my tongue when tasting the winners. To me, there's a fine line between HEAT and SPICY. Some days, we want a milder with spaghetti. Some days we want "runny" like we had in grade school.

If YOU and your sweetheart like it, that's all that counts. Chili is versatile and if yours doesn't meet your standards, it's a pretty easy fix.

My neighbor threw a bunch of sweet green peppers in hers and totally changed the taste! It was good in it's own way.

    3. LJ,
We have been competition cooking for a while now. The chili entered for the cook offs is totally different than the chili we make at home. There are rules we have to follow on how it's made and what goes in it.
I cook with 7 of the top 10 chili cooks in the world and they teach me something new every time we cook together.
My team is 15th in the nation so when I say mine ain't no good, I'm just comparing it to the big dogs.

  3. MDR,

I highly doubt your chili or beans suck. You've been doing these cook offs for a while. If they sucked you wouldn't be at the cook off. Thanks for the invite to Durant my friend. I'm must let you know we won't be able to make it due to prior commitments. I'm rooting for you to win this year!!!!

    1. Thanks Sandy,
It's going to be too hot anyway. I'm trying to figure out a way to close in my shade and bring a window unit.

    1. Thanks Kymber,
I will let you know how it goes.
You are lucky not to have had to be in this heat. They say you get used to it but I beg to differ.
