My Bad!

Ever since I started this blog I have wrote about the happenings in my life including the good and the bad. Even though it may be embarrassing to me I try and hold no punches when it come to telling it like it is. I talk about what worked and what failed on the Mini Farm, the feast and the famine times, good luck and bad luck and even the ups and downs.
I have been persecuted for some of the things I have wrote that may have embarrassed some friends and family. I have had folks come to my house with print outs of the blog demanding I explain my actions. I have been asked by family members not to mention anything about any of the family's business. I have been in situations where at gatherings someone would turn and ask me not to put this on my blog. I have been told not to post pictures, names or anything that may insinuate who they are or what they have done. I have had to go back and edit posts taking out phrases and instances because I have offended someone.
I think it is funny how when people read about what they say to me and their actions, they automatically find offense that I would write such a thing about them even though I was the one offended in the first place.
I usually throw out the freedom of speech thing and "if you don't like it don't read it" statement, but that never works. This is why this blog has only been about me and the Mini Farm for the past few months with only one or two posts a week. I sure don't want to say the wrong thing on here even though the truth is hard to swallow for some.

Wow, I don't know how I got off on all that. This was really not what I was wanting to say in this post, but I am going to leave it in anyway. Apparently it needed to be said.

Starting over, I am not embarrassed to admit my mistakes.  Here, let me explain.
Last week I treated the rain water tanks. I usually treat them with one half of a chlorine tablet in each tank a month. For some reason I thought I needed a full one in each one this time. Two nights ago I went to take a shower and when I turned the water on is started burning my skin. The gasses were so bad it burned my lungs and got light headed and almost passed out. I got out of the shower and crawled to the door and opened it to get a breath of fresh air. I held my breath and went back in with my eyes watering and burning the whole time. I turned off the water, went and took another breath, blew out the lanterns, grabbed my clothes and went out. I was standing in the garden naked, dripping water with burning skin. I made my way in the house and into he shower to rinse off. This was a close call. It took several hours to recover completely from it all.
Where did I go wrong? I have been in the water business for several years and I am certified to treat water and deliver it to consumers. I know dosage rates, detention times, demand and residual levels like the back of my hand.
This is what I finally figured out. Venting, I do not have any vents on the storage tanks. Yes there is a two small holes to keep them from imploding when the water is pulled out, but they are not big enough for gases to escape. When I double dosed the water the gasses built up and had no place to go and with the heat it multiplied making it a super chlorinated water. Plus I started using a different tablet that I knew put off more gases than the others.
The tanks are now vented and the water is being circulated. This was something I knew about, but overlooked at almost a fatal expense.

There you go, an embarrassing, dumb mistake that I knew better to do. I wouldn't call it complacency, I would call it lazy.

I hope everyone has a great fathers day weekend. Mine won't be so good this time for reasons I won't disclose. I agree some things are meant to stay in the family.

I'm out,

  3. Wow. Glad to hear you're okay.
There's a book I have not read, I believe, called "America, the land of the Offended". Crazy, isn't it?

Much as I hate to say it, I find the older I get, the stranger things I find myself doing. Nothing deadly yet, but hubby does want me to learn how to can.
Today I kept opening a drawer when I was supposed to be checking the microwave.

    Have a blessed weekend!

I try real hard not to get offended but when someone says that I did it to them and it was because I wrote about what they said then that pisses me off. Why say it if all your going to do is get mad if everyone knows you said it.

  4. I wouldn't have even considered such a thing, if not for your blog.

Don't your criticizers understand that we (those that follow your blog) are all ONE big happy family out here! We don't have a clue as to who they are, wouldn't know them from anyone else if we ran in to them. They need to get a grip!

  5. I'm glad your feeling better! wow!

I love your blog and I don't think you should change it for anyone! I have had people tell me don't blog about this or that and I always tell them the same thing "if you don't want me to blog about it, then don't do it! After all, I can't talk about something you don't do" That usually shuts them up pretty quick ;-)

    Have a great weekend.

    1. Thanks Lisa M,
I never wanted to be that guy where people were afraid to say what the want to. I posted about things and people's mind sets that I run across and it offends them to see I would say anything about it. Plus the family business is just that but others can plaster it all across facebook and nothing is said about it. On facebook we know and see those folks.

  6. If they can't stand the heat, they should stay out of the kitchen - i.e. of your blog content offends them, why do they read it?

In my book it's your blog and if you want to write something, go ahead. As long as it doesn't harm any one or stigmatize them, what is the problem. Unless they are feeling guilty...?

    1. My point exactly Dani.
I don't think it's feeling guilty. I think it's when they see others commenting on what they do they feel embarrassed and then that turns to anger. Just like me, most of friends and family are never wrong in anything they do. We are a group of Alphas.
Plus I never use names or pictures so what's the harm?

  7. I am certainly glad you are ok!

As to folks getting offended and not wanting you to put out info or photos...I can only say I would hesitate with facial photos of children, there are way to many predators out there. Other than that, I agree with Lisa M above!

I never put names or photos unless I ask first and the only kid pictures you will see on here are of mine.

  8. I'm so glad you're okay. Thanks for the warning - and that's why people shouldn't be embarrased about sharing their screw ups ! Surely we should all learn from each others mistakes. If all the Nay sayers were pissed off before, I wonder how they are going to feel about our comments on their behaviour now - embarrased much ? I don't feel that you ever over step the mark and as Lisa M said earlier, you can't blog about stuff they didn't do. Feet up, chill out and enjoy Father's Day as best you can. X

Most of them know I am not going to blog about every little thing they do. I just do it on the stupid crap they say to me and y'all comment on how they sound.

  9. thanks for the warning and don't feel embarrased about your mistaks it is when you repeat them that you should worry about it and also what you put in your blog is nothing compaired to what some people put on their facebook

  10. Well, I'm glad you didn't die. hehehehe. Now I know to make sure we vent.

  11. I solved that problem by keeping my blog secret from all family members. But it also takes some work keeping things anonymous while posting so they don't stumble across it and figure it out. Sometimes I would like to share my posts with them but then I read experiences like yours and double my resolve to keep it anonymous. That way I truly have freedom of speech.

    1. Thanks ED,
I tried for a while but word got out. When everyone first started reading it, it was a nightmare. Even without saying names or showing pictures some were embarrassed about how I saw them or that I would even repeat what they said to me for all to read. I almost stopped it right then but found another way to vent on another blog site that nobody knows who I am.

  12. Eh well we all make mistakes, it's just a part of life. (Trust me, I am rehearsing what NOT to say to some family members today when we go visit.) Reminds me of when I worked at the vet clinic. I was told to bleach the cat room but instead of doing a 1:10 bleach solution I did full strength. Eyes, skin, and lungs burned and it took forever to air out after the mistake was found. To this day I can not stand the smell of bleached clothes. Well Happy Father's Day! Hope it turns out ok for you, :)

  13. This is exactly why I tell no one where to find my blog. A very good friend wanted to read my blog after I mentioned it one day. I just laughed. No one in my family or town reads it, except maybe for one person that I was trying to get to write more on her bloog. She just would not tell me hers after she asked the name of mine.

You should tell the friends and relatives just to not read your blog. Threaten to block them...lol.

    1. Thanks PP, I have but they stalk it anyway just to see what I say. I almost started another one but I don't have the time to do this one like I should. I found another place to vent if I need to where no one knows who I am.

  14. Oh, what a bunch of BS.

You're just trying to cover up your flatulence from eating all that leftover chili.

    Glad you're ok.

    1. Good to hear from you Rochdale, It has been a while. You need to take the trip north for a visit.
I wished flatulence was the case, well not really?
Now I am in water recovery mode trying to mix some of the "bad" water with the well water. After two weeks it's almost still as strong.
Last night I was able to wash my hands and arms without it burning and I am able to start watering with it again, just not the fish pond. LOL talk about a massive kill off if I did that.
Oh, by the way, nice blog.
