Three Day Weekend Review.

It got hot in a hurry. No kidding, it almost hit 100 out there today.
The good thing is the mornings are still comfortable. The bad part of that is, no sleeping in if you want to get anything done before it gets hot.

I got the one key element of the solar laundry room out of the way this weekend which was the hand powered washing machine.
The first two loads went off without a problem so Sunday morning it was time to showcase it in front of the girls and see how they would take to it.

To my surprise six loads in and they were looking for more to wash. I am sure it is because it is new, but just for that little bit of time we were together and working as a team for a greater good, even it was just washing clothes.
I looked at it as more of the washing of the soul.
The above picture is "Wee" on the Wash Board gittin after it. Now she can tell her kids she has done it.

Even the wife likes it and would like to do the wash in it at least once a week. She says it's the workout she is needing. I am grinning from ear to ear over it.

Today we decided to beat the heat and head to the lake. No, not the part where everyone else is at. We know of some real nice places reachable only by a four wheel drive so that keeps most of the riffraff out. The wife and I parked our chairs under the shade tree and took out our favorite reads while the girls played and splashed in the water.
We were all together having fun just like old times, I wished it could last forever.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and took time to remember the ones who gave their lives so we could have that weekend.

  2. I agree, sounds like a very nice weekend. I had a good one too and yes, I have to get up early to get anything done here all summer long. Have to get going before the heat does. Lately though we don't have much cool in the mornings either.

    1. Becky I am glad to hear you had a good one.

I know what your saying. During the summer it starts off in the 90's here.

  3. northeast mississippi is getting hotter by the minute..so this is what i do. i get up at the crack of dawn, and get outside to do whatever needs to be done. then about the time that nine or ten a.m. rolls around, i take myself a birdbath, climb into my comfies (pjs mostly) and with the ceiling fans going full blast i take myself a little siesta...then when all cooled off and rested up, i start thinking about suppertime and cooking. while that is going on i catch up on the news and maybe do a little book reading. in other words, it is alot like living in the late 1800's or early 1900's...before a/c was in fashion and the iceman delivered. it is amazing what we see, and hear in the wee hours of the morning....and how peaceful and calm it is too. and if there is work to be done there are very few distractions. and i have discovered that the midday rest does not keep me from going to bed for the night at an earlier hour...i actually get a reallly good nights sleep too -

    1. Anony, it sounds like you have it figured out.
I don't get a chance to take a naps on my day off. I spend the time doing inside work instead. Yesterday I could have. It was really peaceful out at the lake.

  5. Very cool laundry room. Will be interesting to see if the girls still like it when they have to do it that way. We are not as hot here. In fact I don't think you would call it hot. One day was about 71 but I was getting a lot done in the garden and it was so pleasant with the birds singing and the animals wandering around. Bar B Queing was high on the list so a lot of eating. The lake and a book sounds like heaven to me.

    1. Sista, that is the deal. Having to do it and choosing to do are two different things. I am sure when the newness wears off it will not as much fun but they will still have a choice.
For them just knowing they would have to if they did not take care of the one in the house is good enough for me.

Yes, the lake and book under the shade tree was as close as I can get to heaven for now.

  6. Time with the family is the best, especially when they are growing up before your eyes.

  8. This made my heart swell...yes, I also wish moments like those would last forever. I have two daughters who are now in their 20's and those "together" moments of just the four of us, well, those are probably gone forever because hairy-legged-boys are now in the picture, especially with our oldest daughter being engaged.

I am so happy the washing maching worked out. Frankly, I can't wait to hang dry some things outdoors, once we move to the country. House is for sale. Trying so hard to get there!!! Meanwhile, we enjoy our backyard, it's rather small, but we make the best of it!

    1. Lana, Hairy legged boys is why what little hair I have left is grey.

Good luck on your house sell.
