Wish Me Luck

Being we had a couple of rain days this week I am to work tomorrow. Working on weekends may be fine for some people, but I am too busy to waste my weekend Mini Farm time on a Job.

I will be missing out on the oldest girls (BEB) special dinner preparations. You see, she fancies this guy and wants him to meet the family (the whole family). I am not to keen on the whole thing but what do I know. Every word I say about it, all she hears is "Blah, Blah, Blah." My mouth moves but nothing comes out, at least it seems that way.

So this special dinner she is making up is something a little different. A few times a year I like to step outside the box of the normal and do something out of my comfort zone. Being I made the menu, I intended to be there with her, but work has stepped in the once again. I should make it home in time to start the cooking. All she needs to do is get it all ready.

This is what's for dinner,

Indonesian Chicken with Mango-Peanut Salsa
Grilled Ginger-Sesame Pork Steaks with Pineapple and Scallions
Grilled Eggplant with Chilies, Peanuts and Mint
Parmesan Crusted Green Tomato Gratin
Grilled Southwestern Potato Salad
Squash Casserole
Hawaii Sweet Rolls
Ginger-Molasses Cheesecake

All from scratch, all homemade.

So wish me luck either on the dinner or not hurting the boy, your choice.

  2. Having two grown daughters myself (24 and 21 now) and a Deputy for a husband who would engrave the boy's name on a bullet as he came to pick up a daughter for a date, I wish you the best with remaining calm in your "A" dog position with your daughter, no matter if she feels he is THE boy for her...you know that is usually not the case...just remind him that you will do to HIM whatever he does to your daughter. With a grand smile.

A whisper in his ear always works wonders. That's what the Deputy always did. He would literally ask the boy, "What is your most precious possession?" They'd think it over and then the Deputy would say, "Well, you're taking out MY most prized possession and if she comes back with a scratch on her, you might as well do yourself in because I am coming after you."

We saw our share of boys we would have loved to make part of our compost, but patience worked out, not perfectly, but it worked out, so far.

Dinner will be great. I wish the boy luck so he won't be scorched.

    1. Thanks Lana, this ain't the first boy to come a knocking and I am sure it won't be the last. My girls are now 20, 17, 16.
I hope she uses her head with this.

    1. I hope it's not the love of her life Kymber. He is a Navy guy that goes to college with her. She needs stability and a home life for her career.

  4. I'm reminded of Rodney Atkin's song 'Cleanin' this Gun'.
Wish you all luck and hope work goes well!

    1. Thanks LindaG. No, there will not be any firearms out this time. There will be to many witness around in case of an accident.

  5. The menu sounds wonderful. Hope 'the Boy' shows respect and loves it all. If he's smart, that's what he'll do, regardless. But, I'm sure all will be well if for no other reason, of the fact that you (& Mrs. MDR) raised her well. Can't wait to hear his reaction(s) to everything!

Remember, you have to meet them eventually :-).

My Daddy still gives my husband grief on just about everything. However, he brags to others about him, just not to his face.

p.s. I want the Eggplant and Green tomato recipies when you get a chance.

  6. It will be fine. Doesn't hurt to show him some of your fine weaponry, unless he has bigger guns!

  7. I had to laugh reading your post. My dad was a range instructor and a drill instructor in the Army. Three daughters. We had a *point* system.
Boy asked you out 1 point
Boy showed up to pick you up. 1 point
Boy didn't pass out, run or piss hisself when he met Daddy. 2 points
Boy asked you out again after meeting Daddy. KEEPER!

Sadly, very few made it to keeper status, lol!

    1. That is funny Lamb.
I have ran a few off in my time. I hope to run a few more off as well.
If it was up to me none of them would be a keeper.

  9. Hope the boy is worth all that work? Guess she must really fancy him!

If nothing else the preparation will keep her busy, and feed a bunch of tummies later :)

    1. Dani, The dinner was intentionally not for the boy. It was my turn to step outside of the box on dinner this time. Me and my buddy Dave do this a few times a year to stretch our abilities beyond just BBQ. Just so happens the boy is in town and BEB wanted him to come over so now it has become her meal and I am the sous chef this time.

    1. PTRADAAT, If he does he does, I don't really care if he don't to be honest.
It would make things a lot easier if my girls would just stay single until after collage. And then until they start their careers. And then until I am gone. Then maybe they can start dating.
