There Was A Time When........

I am sitting here at work and my mind has drifted off to another place and I started to think of stupid things that are actually true and before long it has turned into this.
I know this is corny, but in my mind it is a master piece.
Enjoy it if you can and leave me a comment telling me how corny it really was and what you came up with when there was a time when........

There was a time when I could work all day and party all night.
There was a time when I would go to town looking for a fight.
There was a time when I needed only a couple hours of sleep a day.
There was a time when I had no filter on the things I say.
There was a time when I thought 40 was old.
There was a time when on my back I could carry a pickup load.
There was a time when I said I will never tell my kids, "Because I said so".
There was a time when I would have looked good in a speedo. (that ones funny)
There was a time when I thought everyone I loved would always be with me.
There was a time when I did not have to get up every few hours at night to pee.
There was a time when I thought dominoes was a old persons game.
There was a time when I searched for fortune and fame.
There was a time when I had no fear.
There was a time when I could really put away some beer.
There was a time when I could write and rhyme with a relaxing flow.
There was a time when I never thought, where did all that time go.

  1. MDR, i pretty much agree with all those "there was a times you wrote" except maybe the one about the speedo, can't really picture that one, or don't want to. As for me, there was a time when I thought all that stuff was really important. There was a time when I thought drinkin, fightin and gettin my name in the paper was really livin. There was a time when I didn't really know what life was all about and I thank the Lord he let me live long enough to find out the truth. There was a time when I didn't know the things in life that really mean something can't be bought, they aren't for sale. Well I guess I went and got all serious on you but you asked. Don

  3. Didn't know rednecks were poets. There was a time when I though all rednecks were beer drinking, hell raising, pains in the ass. lol

  5. sista, Well hello to you too (lol). I sure hope for as long as you have been a part of the MDR family, some of us might have changed that outlook for you. That is why it is called "Modern Day" instead of "Old school".
And just to keep face, I still like to raise the roof every now and again.

  6. There was a time when our money was worth something,
There was a time when the American Dream was to own a home,
There was a time when everyone worked for a living, and not out begging,
There was a time when kids listened to their parents,
There was a time when man and women married, and not the same sex,
There was a time when we all believed in God,
There was a time when not believing in there religion would mean death,
There was a time when we did not prep because we felt the economy would collapse,
There was a time when everyone cared,

  9. There was a time when you could live without a college degree.

  10. I really enjoyed this post it is all so true.

@BlueEyedBaby - I know many people including myself that have done just fine without a college degree. In fact I do better than most people I know with a collage degree and i don't ever have to repay the loan that comes with it. Although the thought of going back to school has crossed my mind it has never been for carrier reasons but purely personal mostly hobby related reasons. I would love to go back to school for electrical engineering or robotics but not because I am in that field just that I have a personal interest that leans that direction. I personally think more attention should be turned to the nations high schools to prepare young adults for the work force and not some for profit university that is only there to make money.

I talk to the kids that are graduating these days and they don't know basic history, stair at me blankly if I mention polynomial, and forget trying to have a conversation on any novel they should have read, people still read don't they?

Ugh anyway I will stop now before I really get going. I think the whole comment has been derailed enough.

MDR love your blog. I wish I could get a cool day were I live but anything in the upper 90's is considered cool here I really wish i could find a blog from someone that has experience doing what you and so many others do further north in scorching south. I hope to join the ranks of self sustained small farmer soon but most of the information i find doesn't pertain to an area were there is no freezing and winter lasts about a month and only gets down to the 50's lol

  11. MDR, there was a time when this was America.

BlueEyedBaby, isn't it shame, but you will be the better for the education...hang in there. I know it's tough now, but in three years you'll ask yourself, 'where did the time go.'

  15. ATH, I guess that all depends on how you lived your life.

BEB, I know. I just wished I had the money to where you never had to worry about student loans. Maybe if would have finished my degree then I would have had a job that paid enough to save for your future. Sorry kiddo.

    Izzy, Thanks for the compliment.

SFG, I still do and I am paying for it.

Anonymous, I don't know why your comment did not post. so I put it up anyway.
Thanks for the comments to the daughter there and if you need a soap box to get on the let me get it for you. Go right ahead.

Thanks for the compliment on the blog.

How far South are you? No offence but you described a place that I picture as hell.

  18. There was a time when I didnt bite off everyone's head before menopause...:) I used to be nice really. There was a time when I could ride my bike faster than anybody (back in the fourth grade LOL) There was a time when to go to a restaurant was a treat and only done on special occasions like your birthday. There was a time when motel/hotel rooms did not have TV's, microwaves, coffeemakers and fridges. There was a time when you went and visited people and actually talked the whole time. There was a time when getting a new car was a real big deal. There was a time when there were pay phones on just about every corner and if someone called you and you werent home they just called back later. There was a time when the school textbooks lasted longer than just a couple of years. There was a time when you only got a couple of toys for Christmas and one for your birthday and the rest of the presents were clothes and shoes and you were really happy to get what you got. There was a time when you actually believed your mom when she said she had esp and knew where you were and what you were doing (turns out we had neighbors who spied on us) Dang couldnt get away with anything LOL. There was a time when neighbors looked out for neighbors. If there was someone suspicious at your house when you werent there, the neighbors would ask what those people were doing there and inform you when you got home. Finally, there was a time when your heart broke when you found out there was no Santy, no easter bunny and no tooth fairy but then when you figured out you could keep it alive for your little brother that made your heart smile...
