Nope, it's not green.
Everyone is bragging about how many tomatoes they have, how much squash the pick, there beans are doing great, best year they ever had for this or that and oh yea, so much okra they can't pick it all.
Mine, ain't pick one thing yet. The plants are all big healthy and green, but nothing. Every night at supper time I ask the wife, "Is this from the garden?" and the same answer is always returned, "No!"
All I can say is, just like in football when the team has a losing year they use the excuse, it's a building year.
Amen to that and whether or not it's your first year of your 21st you just never know what the weather will hold or how the bugs will do damage, etc..... Keep your chin up :o) We had to replant cukes, zucchini, pumpkins, squash and some carrots due to high moisture and low heat and they rotted*sigh*
ReplyDeleteTake care and be sure to share those first pictures of your produce. :o)
Hey there Redneck...I have read your whole blog tonight and I have to say what a remarkable person you are. I too made the mistake of trying to keep up with the Jones and turning my back on my country roots, but these days I regret that decision. I dream now of some land out in the country where I don't have to put on airs and all my hard work goes back into my family and my home. I have finally started my trek back to redneckville by planting a garden. That doesn't sound too rednecky does it? I live in a trailer park:) I'm the only person in "the community" that has a garden:) Last year was my first attempt at gardening and I hardly got anything for my trouble. But if at first you don't succeed, I tried tried again this year and I have veggie plants popping up all over the place:) Someday I will get back to the country I long for, but until then I will make do:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelle. The wife and I have had a garden every year for the past 20 years. But this time with the move and all it has been tough. I don't have any water systems hooked up yet and the soil in the raised beds are not up to par. Next year will be better. I hope
ReplyDeleteWannabe, planting a garden will never be be too rednecky. It doesn't matter if it was a patio in an apartment as long as you do it. As a matter of fact if I were you I would try and get the park manager to let me plant one in a vacant lot and pass out fliers to let everyone know you are starting a community garden and if they want some they need to sign up and help. To comment on your last statement, country and redneckism is a state of mind. It don't matter where you are or what you live in, if you are trying to be self sustainable and teach your family the value of work through the rewards of self reliance, then welcome home.
If you need anything just let me know.
Thank you for your comment and welcome to Modern Day Redneck.
